Chelsea have a new Striker and it’s not who you think it is

Chelsea have reportedly reached an agreement with Ipswich Town to sign Liam Delap. The Blues are prepared to seal Liam Delap transfer after positive talks with the striker this week.

Delap gave his preference to the Chelsea project and is now expected to follow with formal steps. Chelsea will pay a £30 million release clause and Man City will get 30% of the fee as they had a sell-on clause included in agreement with Ipswich Town. City will not be activating their buy back clause.

Delap scored 12 Premier League goals this season and had been on several club’s radar since Ipswich dropped to the Championship. Liam Delap’s choice to sign for Chelsea was influenced by the long term deal the Blues offered, as well as Maresca’s impact and Chelsea’s Champions League qualification.

He will sign his Chelsea contract in the next 24 hours as Ipswich Town has now authorized medical tests.

Delap’s arrival would boost Chelsea’s striking options as they look to combat a persistent striker woe at the club. The Englishman would rival Nicolas Jackson for a place in the starting eleven, a competition that would be most welcome to Enzo Maresca. Chelsea are still interested in signing another striker regardless of whether the Delap deal pulls through or not. Viktor Gyökeres and Victor Osimhen are being speculated as possible options.

In a related development, Ipswich Town have offered a loan move to Chelsea striker Marc Guiu. He is a priority target for the Tractor boys and is one of key profiles wanted by McKenna as striker options to replace Delap.
