Newcastle will not continue pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike this summer after the Magpies had a bid rejected on Monday. Eintracht Frankfurt rejected Newcastle’s initial bid of £70m for the striker.
According to reports, Newcastle are in the market this transfer window for a forward player to boost their attacking options. They have already brought in Anthony Elanga this summer for £55m.
However, many did see Ekitike as a potential replacement for Aleksandr Isak, should the Swede join Liverpool. With their £70m bid rejected and Liverpool also in talks with Frankfurt for Ekitike, Newcastle will shift focus to other transfer targets.
Newcastle transfer target
• Yoane Wissa
Brentford striker Yoane Wissa has now been identified as a new transfer target for Newcastle after Eintracht Frankfurt turned down their bid for Ekitike. Yoane Wissa has scored 48 goals in 137 league appearances for Brentford. The 28 year old is also wanted by Tottenham and Nottingham Forest. Champions League football is believed to be a perk for Wissa who is eyeing a move away from Brentford this summer.
• Axel Disasi
On the defensive end of the pitch, Newcastle are working on signing Axel from Chelsea. The 27 year old Frenchman spent last season on loan at Aston Villa where he impressed Newcastle’s scouts. Chelsea values Disasi at £30 but the Magpies could land him for cheaper than that depending on negotiations. Disasi would add energy to Newcastle’s back line ahead of the new season.
• Benjamin Sesko
RB Leipzig forward, Sesko is rumoured to be a possible target for Newcastle United. Although no concrete talks has been held, the 22 years old Slovenian is also on Newcastle radar. Sesko reported wants to play Champions League football and could welcome a move away from the Red Bull Arena.
