Reports from Catalunya suggest that Lamine Yamal will wear the number 10 jersey at Barcelona from next season.
Barcelona’s iconic number 10 shirt has been worn by iconic players in the past such as Maradona, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho and Lionel Messi.
Ansu Fati had inherited the shirt after Lionel Messi’s departure from the club in 2021 and still held the number after returning from his loan spell at Brighton but is now set to lose it to the impressive Lamine Yamal from next season.

Yamal has been Barcelona’s standout player in a season that saw the Catalans win the La Liga and Copa Del Rey while also ousting Real in 4/4 el clásico meetings. The La Masia graduate has been nothing short of sensational on the right wing and has been instrumental to Barcelona’s dazzling attack. With his mazy dribbles and fleet feet causing all sorts of problems for defenders. Over the cause of the season Lamine Yamal has perfected the art of scoring curlers from the edge of the box and being just 17 years old there is every likelihood that he’d only get better going forward.
Yamal’s performances which earned him Balon d’Or shouts, has also drawn him comparisons to club legend Lionel Messi and has prompted authorities at the club to consider handing him the number 10 shirt previously won by Messi.
Although currently worn by Ansu Fati the 10 jersey would be given to Lamine Yamal regardless of whether Fati leaves the club or not.
With the 17 year old taking over the iconic number 10 shirt from next season, it would be interesting to see him replicate the feats of those greats who have worn the shirt before him.
